Dorena Williamson

I love coffee, reading on the beach, and DC comic heroes Wonder Woman and Superman, even though my husband is an avid Marvelcollector. Whether it’s in the Bible, books, or on the big screen, I love a good story!

My resume is quite eclectic: I put my psychology degree to work as a social counselor, a teen mom mentor, and in various ministry roles as a First Lady. Presently I work with the national brand Evereve as a stylist, giving joy to women one outfit at a time.

My passion for race and justice has grown out of the multiracial church I co-planted 25 years ago. I am grateful for every opportunity to stand on large stages or labor in my community, building God’s Diverse Kingdom.

While raising my four children, I read aloud tons of illustrated books at home and in their schools. And even though my house has outgrown those books, I’m still pretty passionate about the messages our kids get about themselves and the world around them.

Today’s publishing trends like #ownvoices, #weneeddiversebooks, and #POCpub demonstrate the growing awareness for the benefit of multicultural books. I hope children see our shared humanity as they grasp relevant messages that enrich their lives today and plant seeds that will blossom hope for tomorrow.

For personal growth and support, I am a member of #BeTheBridge, #SCBWI (Mid-South region), #PelicanProject, #Publishingincolor, #Entrusted Women, #KidLit411, #CulturallyFluentFamilies, #MulticulturalChildrensBookDay.

I am represented by Dave Schroeder, WTA Media, dave.schroeder@wta.media.
